Employee Honored For Never Missing A Day In Four Decades

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Rhea Holt(Nashville, TN) — A Nashville man is being honored for never missing a day of work in over four decades. Rhea Holt began working at Autow Truck Rental and Leasing in South Nashville in 1966. In 43-years, Holt never called in sick, never slept in late or took any personal days because of what he calls a “strict worth ethic” and absence of the word “sick” from his vocabulary. The Harlan family credits success to their employees, who show up with a positive attitude every day.

What Countries Have the Most Millionaire Households?

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

According to the Global Wealth Report:

USA:                      4.0 million

Japan:                     1.1 million

China:                     0.4 million

Germany:                0.4 million

UK:                         0.4 million

America really is the land of opportunity. What the article in the paper didn’t mention was how many American self-made millionaires came to the U.S. from other countries that did not afford so much freedom and opportunity (i.e. Russian immigrants are 4 times more likely to become millionaires than people born in the U.S.).

The article also doesn’t mention how Washington’s astronomical growth of the deficit and the taxes and inflation that always result will decrease the number of American millionaires.

Do You Consider Yourself to be “Rich”? The IRS May Disagree

Monday, December 28th, 2009

When Washington politicians are asked how they’re going to provide all the free services they keep promising without raising taxes on the middle class, their answer it that they’re going to “tax the rich” or “make rich people start paying their fair share”.

But hold on to your wallet, because what they’re actually referring to is not wealth, but income. And your household income probably places you a lot higher up the scale than you think.

Here’s how a recent report from Kiplinger’s broke it down:

IncomeChart-1

Remember that politicians originally got the concept of income taxes passed because they told Americans that only “the rich” would be taxed. The same was true of the AMT (alternative minimum tax).

Rest assured that no matter who initially gets stick with the lion’s share of the tax burden for all these new “stimulus packages” and bailouts, everyone who has a decent income will ultimately get hit.

It’s not because of politics, it’s because of math. Those “mean, evil, dishonest” people who are in the top 1% of income earners (who don’t pay “their fair share”) are already paying 40% of the tax burden. There’s no one left to tax but the middle class.

“Glenn, Do You Regularly Trip While Walking?”

Sunday, December 27th, 2009

I bought my beautiful bride a Wii with a Wii Fit Plus balance board for Christmas, so she can do Yoga and other training indoors when the weather is bad. I reluctantly took the balance and coordination test, and discovered that Wii has an attitude. Its response was “Glenn, do you regularly trip while walking?” Guess that means I failed the test. :(

A Movie You HAVE to See

Saturday, December 26th, 2009

I have a problem with most movies these days. Although I’ve come to pretty much expect the gratuitous sex, violence, and profanity in most movies for adults, the plot lines are so complex that I feel like I need a note pad to keep up with all the characters. For years, I’ve wondered why Hollywood can’t make a few films a year that:

A. Adults and kids can both watch and enjoy
B. Don’t make me have to work so hard to follow
C. Are actually entertaining

“Blindside” is one of them, based on a true story that happened here in Tennessee.

You gotta see this one.

“I Believe in Christmas” by Zig Ziglar

Friday, December 25th, 2009

It’s the first Christmas I can remember. It arrived just seven weeks after the deaths of my father and baby sister. To make matters worse, it was in the heart of the Great Depression. Things were tough. All of us children who were older made what income contributions we could, but the truth was my mother had eight of her eleven remaining children still living at home, and six were too young to work. Understandably, the Ziglar kids were concerned about what kind of Christmas it would be!

The good news is that though our grief was fresh, we still celebrated Christmas. We received no toys that year, but much to my delight in my gift box I found three English walnuts and something I had never tasted before—raisins! They were absolutely delicious.  Mama prepared her wonderful molasses candy and we had a small cedar tree. And my mother read the Christmas story, like she always did.

My sixth Christmas will always have great meaning to me. We celebrated the birth of Christ even in hard times because we believed in Christmas.

Unfortunately, over the years things have changed. The cheerful “Merry Christmas” of yesteryear has been replaced by the politically correct “Happy Holidays!” In the minds of many people we celebrate “holidays.” Not only is Christ not at the center of the celebration, He isn’t even considered to be the reason for the season!

If I seem upset about the changes that I see taking place in regard to Christmas, it is because I am! It’s not because an old tradition is being changed. No, I’m upset that the event that made it possible for me to have a life I could never have imagined is being hidden from view with decorations, wrapping paper, parties and political correctness!

A Little Christmas Cheer

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

When I launched the Internet Marketing division of my company in 2004, I had no idea how far it would reach.

This morning, I sent out a short email to everyone that simple read “Just wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas. Know that you are loved and appreciated.”

I borrowed those words from my colleague “Mr. Z”, who is the highest earning and most successful speaker I know. He ends each phone call with “Glenn my friend, know that your are loved and appreciated”. Although I know he says that to everyone, it still sends a shiver down my spine each time I hear it.

When the responses from today’s e-blast started to come in, I was reminded of how many people this Internet reaches, at such different places in their lives. Before I shut down for the Christmas break, I wanted to post a few.

Notice how one respondent works for a  bank the feds just shut down, while another works for an Idaho company that will grow from 15 to 200 employees next year. While one is in sunny Southern California, another is snowed in somewhere in the east.

So Merry Christmas to you, wherever you are.

— Glenn in beautiful Nashville, Tennessee

Glenn,

Thank you very much for the personal Holiday touch….at “58 years young” I am blessed to still be employed at NCCP/Columbia University in New York….thanks to the wisdom of your book: “How To Be The Employee Your Company Can’t Live Without”  I’m a very proud Administrative Assistant of seven years that has never been sick or late reporting for this gig. Can you believe that in this economic downturn they are going to give me a promotion, bonus, and a raise around July 2010?  God bless you and your family!

Hello Glenn,

Merry Christmas to you, your bride and your employees.

Your article on the little things matter could not have come at a better time. I have been saying it for years and now we are at a point in our business that we will grow from 15 employees today – to 200 by end of year 2010. How we interact between ourselves as well as the people we will interact outside our company will always matter.

I forwarded your article to my team and I received a lot of good responses. It never hurts to have somebody like you to help send the message home.

Thanks again and hope to see you in 2010!

Glenn,

I seldom write back.

Merry Christmas to you as well!

Hearing from you is always an encouragement. I’ve just completed a study of one of your books with two of my youngest reports – new branch managers in a financial institution. They are becoming indispensable employees and best of all, they are working to make their branch employees indispensable as well!

Best to you and everyone at your company!

Glenn,

Thanks…in case the news did not go east, we were an FDIC assisted sale last Friday. If you have various candidate needs in California or elsewhere I probably know several good names for you given that sale and 5 earlier RIFs.

Dear Santa . . .

Thursday, December 24th, 2009

I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that since the Tennessee Titans play the San Diego Chargers tonight on Christmas Day, you must be a Titans fan.

So… all I want for Christmas is for the Tennessee Titans to make it to the playoffs. They have the #1 running back in the NFL (my main man Chris Johnson) and haven’t been to the Superbowl in 10 years, so it just seems appropriate.  :)

This Will Get You into the Christmas Spirit

This is from last July, but it seems so appropriate for Christmas. It’s video of my Baby being given away to a single mom.
